Extra Credit problem:

For the September extra credit you have to do BOTH of the problems below:

#1  On the first day of school, Mr. Vilani gave his third-grade students 5 new words to spell.  On each day of school after that, he gave the students 3 new words to spell.  After the first 20 days of school, haw many new words had he given the students to spell?

#2  Uptown Cable, a cable TV provider, charges each customer $120 for instillation, plus $25 per month for programming.  Uptown’s competitor, Downtown Cable, charges each customer $60 for installation, plus $35 per month for programming.  A customer who signs up with Uptown will pay the same total amount for cable TV as a customer who signs up with Downtown if each pays for installation and cable programming for how many months?

In order to get the extra credit, you must logically explain to me, in written form how you came up with the correct answer. Be one of the first three from your class, to email me a typed answer explaining how you arrived at your solution. Please place EXTRA CREDIT FOR SEPTEMBER in the email heading. Must be sent by September 30, 2008 at 11:59:59 p.m.
