Principal's Note
A semi-frequent update from SVHS Principal, Shannon Harris.
updated October 6, 2008 by Mrs. Shannon Harris in Principal's Note
The year is just flying by. First semester is nearly a third over! Please take the time to log on to Powerschool and check your student’s grades. If you are unsure of how to do this please call the counseling center at 885-4020 or the administrators at 885-7847. We will be happy to give you your log-on information. Star Valley High School will hold parent-teacher conferences at the new Etna Elementary on Wednesday, November 12th from 4:30-7:30p.m. We will also have conferences on Thursday, November 13th at Star Valley High School’s cafeteria from 4:00-7:30. Please come and conference with your child’s teachers. It is a great opportunity to meet with all of them and see how your child is doing. We look forward to seeing you there.
We have had many construction projects going on at SVHS this summer/fall. I am happy to report most of them are almost done! We can now use our new sidewalk and it is very well lit at night. When the snow starts falling you will also see the hydronics at work as they melt the snow and ice and keep the sidewalk clear year round!
The new artificial turf field and track are complete! That project turned out very well and the facilities are already being used multiple times each day. We would like to thank Supt. Abrams and Mr. Holyoak for managing that project and seeing that it was completed- it really is a beautiful facility. We also thank the many sponsors that donated funds to enable us to have a new scoreboard, soccer goals and track equipment; we appreciate your generosity.
Another project that has been going on for months is the installation of new HVAC controls. That project is still being completed and as of right now most of still do not have the ability to control our heat/air. We are hopeful that this will soon be finished so we can be comfortable.
We have a great group of students and have had some really fun activities so far this year. We have had a couple of well attended dances, a great homecoming week, and lots of home sporting events. The fun continues as we have many activities and events coming up this month. Please look at the calendar on the district’s website for a complete listing. I will list just a few here. The first choir concert will be held on Wednesday, October 15th at 7:00p.m. There will be no school on Friday, October 17th for fall break. Our fall musical will be “Grease” which will be presented on November 6th, 7th, and 8th. Our final regular season varsity football game will be held on Friday, October 24th. The final home volleyball matches will be played on Thursday, October 16th starting at 3:00p.m.(Freshmen), 4:00p.m.(sophomore), 5:00p.m. (J.V.), and 6:30p.m. (Varsity). We are enjoying the beautiful fall weather and hope it continues for a few more football games and cross country meets. Please come out and support our students and join in the fun.
Be watching those backpacks as the students should be bringing home our new school newsletter called the “Braves Bulletin”. We appreciate your feedback and ideas so please contact us anytime you have a concern or an idea. Hope your fall is going as well as ours.

Welcome back from spring break. I hope everyone had a relaxing, enjoyable and safe break. We are definitely nearing the end of another year as we only have six weeks remaining until graduation! There are many activities that will occur in the next six weeks including; soccer, track, the spring play, MORP, concerts, SBO elections, and the senior sneak. Let’s all get out and support the many activities that are coming up.
We also hope that everyone will remain focused academically as we complete the school year. Keep, or get, those grades up and make use of after-school tutoring as needed these last few weeks.
It’s hard to believe that another year is winding down and the summer will be here before you know it. Hang in there for six more weeks!

We’ve completed the PAWS testing for this school year! We appreciate the patience our students and staff demonstrated as we worked out a few kinks with the computers and another new PAWs assessment. Our students did a great job of focusing and give it their best effort. We appreciate them. Thanks also to our counseling center for organizing the testing and making sure that all students were tested. We celebrated with a pizza and ice cream party on Friday at the conclusion of the testing. I believe the junior class set a record by downing a whopping sixty large pizzas! We’ll follow this up with a day at Lagoon(in May) for the majority of the juniors. Thanks again for being here and getting it done.

Star Valley High School is planning the PAWs testing for the week of March 17th-20th. It would be very much appreciated if all juniors would be in attendance each of these days to assist us in completing this testing in a timely manner, with as few disruptions as possible. We will also be testing some of our sophomores in the area of math. This testing is very important to the school and the district, as it is used to determine adequate yearly progress (AYP) under the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) act.
If you would like more information please feel free to contact Shannon Harris (Principal) at 885-7847. Thanks for assisting us by having your students in school each day, well-rested, and well fed. :)

After many miles between Casper and Star Valley the winter sports/activities season is drawing to a close. We are so proud of our wrestling team who competed for the state title and came up just a few points short. Congratulations on their second place finish. Also a big congratulations to our state champion 215 pound wrestler, Zach Booth. We are so proud of our wrestling team and coaches and their many successes this year.
Congratulations also to our growing indoor track program. They went to state and represented us very well. Audrey West and Kevin Brough both came away as State Champions. Congratulations to them both. There were also many other outstanding individual and group performances. We are very proud of the SV indoor track team. Way to go guys and gals!
At the conclusion of the 4A dance and cheer spirit competition our teams came away with two third place finishes. We are proud of both the cheer and dance squads for their wonderful performances in Casper this week. Both squads will remain in Casper to perform during the half-time shows of several 3A and 4A basketball games. We wish them well on these performances.
In addition, our Singcopation and Trebletones groups will be providing the National Anthem to begin three state basketball sessions. We know they will also represent us well. Singcopation has the special honor of providing the Anthem for the 4A championship games! After their performances they may have a permanent gig lined up! Our best to them. We are proud of everyone’s effort during the winter season; now without a pause we will begin the spring sports and activities!
